The EWS labs currently include more than 350 workstations and serve over 10,000 users. The mission of EWS is to provide a high performance and highly reliable instructional computing environment for the students and faculty of the College of Engineering.
All EWS labs will close for fall break at 5PM on Friday, November 20. Additionally, all EWS labs will be CLOSED and remote connections to remlnx will be UNAVAILABLE from 5AM to 5PM on Monday, November 23 for file system maintenance. At all other times outside this maintenance window, Engineering Hall labs will remain open 24/7 with I-card access, and the Grainger labs will be open whenever the library is open. All other EWS labs will resume normal hours at 8AM on Monday, November 30.Have a great Thanksgiving! VPN Requirement Change Effective October 14, 2009, we no longer require inbound off campus connections to the remlnx environment to use the CITES VPN. Welcome to the Fall 2009 Semester! We have made a number of changes to our Linux remote access service that enhance security and conserve energy. We now have several high-powered dedicated remote servers that you may access via SSH, X-forwarding, or NX Client by connecting to remlnx.ews.illinois.edu. Remote connections to individual lab workstations are no longer permitted, and all Linux lab computers will be shutdown at night when the labs close. Please see Connecting Remotely for more details. If you have connected previously via NX Client, please note that the hostname has changed from remlnx.ews.uiuc.edu to remlnx.ews.illinois.edu. You will need to update your NX Client configuration to reflect these changes. Please see NX Client Configuration for instructions. Student home directory quotas have increased from 1GB to 2GB. As always, e-mail manager@ews.illinois.edu with any questions you have regarding EWS. Have a great semester! |
