Illinois Compass on Windows Workstations Produces Java Errors
Students using Compass on EWS Windows workstations have reported errors with the latest Java Runtime Environment (version 5.0 update 6). Here is the workaround for a browser "freeze":
- In Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, go to the compass homepage (compass.uiuc.edu).
- Login with your netid and bluestem password.
- You will see several java error boxes pop up. Check the box that says "always trust content from this publisher" and click Run on each window.
- At this point, the browser may "freeze." If this happens you may need to end the task in Windows Task Manager.
- Restart the browser and login again. Compass will work as expected.
