In
      All of EWS systems are running the XWindows Display Manager (xdm). Xdm runs the Xll server at all times, even when nodody is logged in, so that there is no need to start X explicitly after you log in. Here is the screen that you will be greeted with on the EWS systems:



      To log in, make sure the cursor is at the first prompt(Login:) and type your login. Then type your password at the second prompt (Password. If you think you mistyped your password, click on the Reset button. If you entered the correct information, you will be logged in and the window manager will appear. At this point, you are ready to begin any task you set out to perform on the workstation.


Logging Out

Logout For FVWM95 window manager:

      There is two easy ways to log out of the machine. The first method is to click the window on the right vertical button-bar that is labeled Exit, you will be promptly logged out. The second method is to click on the "Start" button on the lower left hand section of your horizontal task bar. A menu will appear and "Logout" will be an option at the very bottom. When you place the cursor over the word "Logout" a secondary menu will appear to make sure you want to log out. If you do, click on the "Yes" response and you will be promptly logged out of the machine.

For Motif style window manager:*

      To log out, move the mouse cursor to an empty point on the screen and click the left-mouse button. A menu should appear whose last item is Quit.

      Move the cursor to this item and release the button. A small box will appear in the middle of the screen with two buttons - Quit and Cancel. Click Quit to end your session. All windows should then disappear, and the login window will be displayed.



*Note: There is also an icon labeled "Logout" in the lower right hand corner. To logout click on this icon.

The most important thing to remember while working on the EWS Workstations is that you remember to LOGOUT!
