EWS Home Directories Currently Down - RESOLVED

Due to a server problem, the EWS Home Directories are currently unavailable. We are working to bring these back up ASAP. Sorry for the inconvenience. Updates will be posted as they are available. UPDATE (01/22/08 7:25 AM): We are currently working with the Vendor of the hardware causing the problem. The home directories are still down for the time being, but we are working to have them up and running ASAP. We apologize for any inconvenience. UPDATE (01/22/08 8:25 AM): The Home Directories are running, but are still experiencing extreme latency issues. We will continue working throughout the day to resolve these issues. RESOLVED (01/22/08 11:00 AM): The EWS Home Directories and all additional EWS services affected by this outage are back to full working order. Thank you for your patience while the problem was being investigated.

252 Everitt Lab Entrance Closed for Cleaning (Use 257 instead) - 10/4/07

The main entrance/room of the Everitt EWS lab(room 252) will be blocked from 9pm until close(3am) on Thursday 10/4/07 while the floors are waxed. The two East side rooms of the EWS labs (254 and 257) will be accessible through the door to room 257 during this time. There will be NO PRINTING IN EVERITT TONIGHT (10/4/07). Students needing to print should use the 57 Grainger or L426 DCL labs.

EWS Summer Interim Downtime/Maintenance: 8/6/07 - 8/21/07

The Engineering WorkStation Labs will be closed throughout the Summer Interim (8/6/07-8/21/07). This time will be used for maintenance being performed as EWS prepares for the upcoming semester. During this time, all the labs will be closed to normal use. Remote access to the workstations will also be disabled through Sunday, 19 August 2007. Specific labs will be kept open for pre-existing workshops that have reserved the labs which do not rely on the services that will be down during this time. Students should not try to use these labs as they are reserved and open only for the workshops that have the labs reserved.

57 Grainger Downtime: 7/23/07 - 7/27/07

The Grainger Solaris lab (57 Grainger Basement) will be down from 7/23/07 through 7/27/07 for hardware upgrades and to be converted to a Linux lab. During this time, the lab will be completely unavailable for use. During this time, 252 Everitt Lab will be opened for users who require use of Linux workstations. For remote connections to Linux hosts, EWS users can connect to remlnx.ews.uiuc.edu, eelnx[1-47].ews.uiuc.edu, or dcllnx[1-72].ews.uiuc.edu. For Solaris, EWS users can connect to remsun.ews.uiuc.edu.

252 Everitt Lab Downtime: 7/9/07 - 7/12/07

The EWS lab located in 252 Everitt Lab will be shutdown from 7/9/07 through 7/12/07 for cleaning. During this time, this lab will be completely unavailable for use.

Engineering Hall 406B8 Downtime: 6/17/07 - 7/6/07

DCL Labs Downtime: 5/21/07 - 6/1/07

The DCL Linux and Solaris labs will be down from 5/21/07 through 6/1/07 for hardware upgrades. During this time, these labs will be completely unavailable for use. The DCL Solaris lab will remain down for an extended period after 6/1/07 while it is converted to a Linux lab. For remote connections to Linux hosts, EWS users can connect to remlnx.ews.uiuc.edu or eelnx[1-47].ews.uiuc.edu. For Solaris, EWS users can connect to remsun.ews.uiuc.edu or glsn[1-40].ews.uiuc.edu.

Solaris Phaseout - Summer 2007

EWS Will be phasing out the Solaris Workstations this coming Summer (2007). This affects the 057 Grainger lab and the L440 DCL lab. We will continue to provide Solaris remote server access through Summer 2008. Of the software that is regularly requested for classes, software that may have been only available for Solaris at one time, is now available for Linux and in many cases Windows. If you are a Professor/Instructor or TA and your class makes use of the Solaris labs, please contact EWS Manager (mananger@ews.uiuc.edu) as soon as possible so that we can ensure your software is installed and working in the Linux or Windows labs for the Fall. If you know of any software currently being used in the labs that you believe to be available only for Solaris, please contact EWS Manager (manager@ews.uiuc.edu) with this information.
