Connecting to Citrix

Introduction

Citrix is a remote client that lets you to use Windows apps from any device. The apps run on the EWS cloud server, and all the rendering is done on the server. Citrix offers the ability to open files that are in your EWS home directory, as well as files that are on the machine you are connecting from.

To connect to the Citrix server, you MUST be connected to the campus network, either by connecting to the campus wifi or by using a VPN.

Connecting from a Windows Computer

Go to citrix.engr.illinois.edu


If you're on an EWS Windows machine, you should be presented with a logon screen. Skip to the logon step

Otherwise, you will need to download the Citrix plugin. Check the box to agree to their terms, and click Install.


Save the program to your computer. When it's finished downloading, run the installer. It will install the Citrix plugin to your computer.

After installation finishes, return to the citrix page in your browser. Click "Continue".


You will be brought to a login screen.

  • User name: your netid
  • Password: Your AD password
  • Domain: uofi

You will be brought to a list of apps. Click on one to launch it.


Depending on your browser, you may be asked to download a file named "launch.ica". Simply run this file to launch your chosen app.

A popup will launch asking if you want to allow Citrix access to your hard drive. Permit use to be able to save and read files from your computer.


You are now using a windows app remotely! Files can be opened and saved from your EWS drive or your host machine.


Connecting from an EWS Linux Computer

In your Applications menu on the top-left, select EWS Software > EWS Citrix Reciever

Make sure that you are in XenApp view by going to View->Citrix XenApp


Go to Tools > Settings > XenApps. Edit the Server to be https://citrix.engr.illinois.edu


Save and Close the settings, and you will be prompted with a login dialog.


  • Username: Your netID
  • Password: Your AD Password
  • Domain: uofi

You should see a list of apps and app folders. Double-click on an app or folder to launch it.


Connecting from an Android Phone or Tablet

Download and install the Citrix Reciever app from the Android Market.


In order to use the Citrix Applications, you need to be connected to the campus network. This can be done by connecting to the campus wifi via UIUCNet and IllinoisNet, or by setting up a VPN

Once the app is installed and you're connected to the campus network, Launch the app.

Select "Set up my enterprise apps"

Address: htttps://citrix.engr.illinois.edu

Click Next

  • Username: your netid
  • Password: Your AD Password
  • Domain: uofi
  • Description: EWS Citrix

Click Add

Select the EWS Citrix account you just created

Click "OK" when notified about password saving

You should be presented with a list of programs that are available through the EWS Citrix client. Select one and it will launch.

Once the program is loaded, you can scroll around the screen. To type, press the Menu button on your phone, then select Keyboard to bring up the keyboard.

To read or write files to your phone's SD card from the Citrix apps, from the Citrix home screen, go to the Settings tab. Select "Session Options", and change SD card access to Full Access.

Connecting from an iPhone or iPad

Connecting from a Mac

Go to citrix.engr.illinois.edu.

Select 'INSTALL' to download the Citrix plugin.

Select 'Install Citrix Plug-in.pkg' to begin installation.

Follow the onscreen instructions to install software.

After installation finishes, return to the citrix page in your browser. Select 'Continue'.

You will be brought to a login screen.

  • Domain: uofi

You will be brought to a list of apps. Select one to launch.

This will download a file called 'launch.ica' which you will need to run to launch the application.
