NX Client Configuration and Usage with Lion
Client Software
EWS recommends using the free NX client available from http://www.nomachine.com. The client software is available for Windows, Linux, Mac, and Solaris on the Download page ( http://www.nomachine.com/download.php ) under NX Client Products. The installation packages use all the standard mechanisms for the selected platforms.
For Mac OSX 10.7 Lion, use the new beta version 4.0 of NX client.
PLEASE NOTE: NX 4 is beta. In our tests, we have had sporadic success using the directions below. We are making these instructions available temporarily as we search for a better solution.
Once you have downloaded NX 4 you should configure your session as follows:

1. Name connection: LINUX.EWS
Host: linux1.ews.illinois.edu
Select: Use the SSH service and Use the NX login
Once this is done select the “…” next to “Use the NX login”

2. Copy this key into a .txt file, and reference that file here.
3. Data is automatically saved, so you can exit this screen by hitting the “X”. This will take you back to the connection screen which you can also X out of.

4. You will see your connection here – select that.

5. Enter your AD credentials.

6. Select ‘Create a new session’

7. Select ‘Create a new GNOME virtual desktop’

8. If you see this error message, select the box next to “Don’t show this message again”

9. Voilà!! Hopefully. This is beta, so errors are possible. If you get an error, verify you have completed step 2 correctly and try again. If you get another error, please try connecting to an alternate host. Good luck!
