An introduction to the Windows XP environment at EWS
EWS uses the UIUC AD password to log users onto workstations in the Windows Labs. To begin, press the Ctrl-Alt-Delete keys simultaneously to bring up the following login prompt:

Enter your NetID and your campus AD password in the approprate boxes. Make sure that UIUC is selected in the "Log on to:" drop down menu (should be the default). If you receive any errors after pressing OK, recheck your password or see an EWS operator for assistance.
Once you have logged in, you will see the standard EWS desktop. All programs for courses are located in subfolders of the programs folder in the start menu:

Ask your instructor if you are unsure where to find the required shortcut. For a list of applications and utilities that EWS provides, see software.
If you wish to print, send your print job to the appropriate printer, and then open the Windows print job browser by double clocking on the following icon on the desktop:
It will open a print queue dialog similar to Unix / Linux:

Select the printer you chose from the application's "Print..." dialog, and then select your job to either Print or Cancel. You can only print or cancel your own jobs. The windows print browser displays how many pages you have left in your quota, which you should keep in mind before printing large jobs. For more information about quotas and printing, see our policy page or the printing user guide. If you need help printing, see an EWS operator.
Finally, when finished with your session at a workstation, don't forget to logout by clicking this button in the upper right corner:
