Sample fvwm2 resource files:

• Sample .fvwm2rc (Be sure to save this file as $HOME/.fvwm2rc)
• Sample fvwm2 .xsession (Be sure to save this file as $HOME/.xsession)

Sample fvwm95 resource files:

• Sample .fvwm95rc (Be sure to save this file as $HOME/.fvwm95rc)
• Sample fvwm95 .xsession (Be sure to save this file as $HOME/.xsession)

To save any of the above files (.fvwm2rc, .fvwm95rc, or either .xsession file), you here are some simple options:

• Right-click (click with right mouse button) on the link and select the option Save Link As .... Save the file in your home directory.
• Click on the link. Go to the Save As... option in the File menu. Save the file in your home directory.

Make sure to set proper permissions for your .fvwm*rc and .xsession files:
  chmod 700 .fvwm2rc or .fvwm95rc
  chmod 700 .xsession

The easiest way to get fvwm2 or fvwm95:

At the login screen:

Click on the Session Default button. You will be presented with a choice of window manager. The current choices are Motif, fvwm95, fvwm2, Common Desktop Environment, and Failsafe. To test any window manger, simply select it and log in. If you like it, the next time you log in, select the window manager again and click on the button that says Click to save as default for future sessions. As of Fall semester 1998, the EWS default window manager will be fvwm95.
