You are looking at a black 1998.5 Audi A4 1.8T. This is a front wheel drive car
with a 5 speed manual transmission and a cloth interior. The car has served me very
well over the past years.
I'll go into a little bit of the history of the car. I purchased the car in the summer of 2005 with a little under 90k miles on the car. The car now has about 106k miles on it now. Since I bought the car, I have performed all of the major maintenance items that crop up right around the 100k mile mark: new clutch and flywheel, new timing belt, and new front control arms and tie rod ends. The car, if treated well, should not need any more major maintenance done for 30k or 40k miles. Only synthetic oil has been put in the car. I do the oil changes myself.
The car is very easy to drive. I was able to teach myself how to drive stick in this particular car, and have taught three other people how to drive stick before I replaced the clutch and flywheel. The clutch is very forgiving and the flywheel is heavy, making it easy to keep the car from stalling.
Now onto the car in its current condition. The exterior is in good shape, with a couple of chips and scratches in the paint that is to be expected from a car that is nine years old. There is no rust on the car. The lower door trim on the driver's side door is loose. (I will post a picture of this once I get the chance to.) Otherwise, the exterior of the car looks very good. Before the school year started, I clayed and waxed the car.
The interior has a couple of paint marks in it. When I bought the car, I was a management intern at CollegeWorks Painting, so the car was occasionally used to haul around paint and painters. Other than that, I took care to try to keep the interior as clean as I could, though my brother occasionally driving my car didn't help sometimes. The car has automatic climate control and a moonroof, which makes things comfortable inside the car. The radio has RDS, which allows you to see nifty info like the song you are listening to on the radio. There is also a 6 CD changer in the trunk.
The trunk holds the jack and spare tire, as well as the 6 CD changer. The previous owner replaced the mini spare with a full sized spare tire.
The car is not perfect. Other than the cosmetic issues, the cruise control does not work, and the airbag light keeps coming on. When the car is in the shop, the airbag light gets reset, but inevitably, it comes back on again. The mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the airbag and suspects it has to do with an electrical connector. As for the cruise control, the mechanic says it's due to a faulty cruise control vaccumm.
I also have a bunch of extra things that go with the car, if you want them. I have another set of 15" wheels, identical to the ones that the car is wearing right now. (I was planning to use this set of wheels for snow tires, but I never got around to getting the tires.) I also have two service manuals, a Bentley and a Haynes, that I will include.
I will conclude with the primary reason why I'm selling this car. Last year, I discovered autocrossing. I started out by autocrossing the Audi, and it is a very predictable, very deliberate car. However, I now want to try autocrossing something lighter and rear wheel drive, so the Audi has to go. I have spent a lot of money on the car to make sure that it would be reliable down the road, and if I don't sell the car, then I will keep it for a couple more years. But it would be nice if I could get a different car.
I currently live on campus, but my car is located at home in southwest Champaign, so if you would like to take a look at the car, you are going to have to make arrangements with me ahead of time so that I can go get the car for a showing.
