Israel Week was a program ran by Hillel and other Jewish organizations around campus. It was to celebrate Yom Ha'Zikaron and Yom Ha'Atzmaut. Through a series of programs (which officially started on Thursday night beforehand), Hillel engaged campus with a wide variety of parties and information, from a Quad celebration to a movie, from music to Israeli food. All in all, the week helped inform the campus more about the purpose of the holidays and the culture of Israel.
The week started off on Thursday night by having "Blue and White Night" at a bar near Hillel called Joe's. A private room upstairs was rented out and discounts on blue drinks and white drinks were available.
On Sunday evening, several people went to Sinai Temple, the local synogogue. In honor of Yom Ha'Zikaron, we watched a slideshow and listend to different poems and writings reflecting on Yom Ha'Zikaron. It ended by a majority of the Hillel attendees singing Hatikvah.
The entire week was sponsored by The Hillel Foundation at the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign, Initiative for Israel on Illinois campuses - A Partnership of the JUF's Jewish Community Relations Council, Illinois Israel Public Affairs Committee, Hillel Leadership Council, Sigma Alpha Mu, Sigma Delta Tau, and Zeta Beta Tau.
