Research
Undergraduate Research (Jan 2005 – Aug 2006)
Worked under Professor Kent Choquette. Research interests included simulation, fabrication, and characterization of photonic crystal vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and coherently coupled photonic crystal VCSEL arrays. Research resulted in a more complete understanding of photonic crystal and holey VCSELs and received the Semiconductor Area Award for ECE Senior Design in Fall 2005.
Master’s Thesis Research
(Aug 2006 – present)
Researching under Professor Kent Choquette. Research project focuses on photonic crystal VCSELs and the development of a mathematical model of their behavior for use in device design. Other research work includes far-field analysis and the creation of coherently coupled arrays for beam steering applications, and the creation of a coupled-cavity optical coherence theory. Expected thesis deposit in August 2007.
Teaching
ECE 444 (Fall 2006)
Taught as a laboratory instructor for course on integrated circuit fabrication. Responsibilities included creating quizzes, grading laboratory reports, and teaching cleanroom etiquette and semiconductor theory.
ECE 495 (Spring 2007)
Teaching as a laboratory instructor for a course on quantum electronics and laser theory. Responsibilities include teaching use of equipment, grading reports, and expanding on theory from lecture.
ENG 199M (Spring 2007)
Graduate TA for mentoring course for students struggling in engineering. Responsibilities include aid in development of course syllabus and structure, creation and implementation of engineering project assignment, class supervision, and student evaluation.
Graduate Teaching
Certificate (2006 – 2007)
Working to obtain the Graduate Teaching Certificate through the Center for Teaching Excellence. Must attend workshops, perform self-evaluations, review student evaluations, be observed in class, and complete two semesters of teaching. Expected completion in Spring 2007.
