Downloads

This page is divided into three sections: Manuals, which has zipped rtf files of various official AD&D books, Other, which has some nifty non-required AD&D related stuff, and Fonts, where you can download the fonts used on this site, if necessary.

All the items available for download (with the exception of the font files) originally came from the AD&D Core Rules CD-ROM v2.0, Copyright © 1998 TSR, inc. Please do not redistribute outside of this AD&D group.

Manuals

The only required reading in this section is the Player's Handbook; even that isn't 100% required, as some rules either have been changed or will be disregarded entirely. See the AD&D Core Rules page for details. All zip files (except the first) contain rtf files that should open using MS Word. The first three books are standards that every AD&D group should have a copy of (though not every player; that would be excessive). The remaining books are optional add-ins.

AD&D Complete 2nd Edition Archive - Archive.zip - 24.6 MB. This massive PDF document is a compilation of most (if not all) of the AD&D 2nd Edition non-setting-specific rulebooks. It includes the three "staple" books (the PHB, the DMG, and the Monsterous Manual), all three Player's Option books (Combat and Tactics, Skills and Powers, and Spells and Magic), books for all the non-human races (The Complete Book of Dwarves, The Complete Book of Elves, and The Complete Book of Gnomes & Halflings), The Complete Handbooks for all the classes (Fighters, Rangers, Paladins, Wizards, Priests, Druids, Thieves, Bards, Ninjas, Psionics, and Necromancers), and several miscellaneous books (Legends and Lore, Monster Mythology, the Tome of Magic, Sages and Specialists, the Arms and Equipment Guide, and the Dungeon Master Option (High-level Campaigns) book). Definitely worth the hard-core D&Der's download time (though I apologize for the cover art).

All Manuals - Manuals.zip - 6.09 MB. All nine of the other manuals on this page, in one convenient zip file. See also the Tome of Help in the Other section.

AD&D 2nd Edition Player's Handbook - Phbbk.zip - 596 KB. The basic manual for an AD&Der. While having your own copy is beneficial, it's not particularly detrimental in live AD&Ding if you don't have one, so long as someone else in the group does. For online play, however, you'll want to be able to look stuff up without having to travel to the next college to look at your friend's copy. Therefore, this download is highly recommended (unless you went and bought yourself a hardcopy ;-).

Note that while the Player's Handbook is over 300 pages long in hardcover form (and nearly twice that in MS Word), only 25-30 of those are actual required reading (~50-60 in the .rtf). See the AD&D Core Rules page for details.

AD&D 2nd Edition Dungeon Master's Guide - Dmgbk.zip - 504 KB. While the player typically does not have access to the information in this book, there is no information that the player should specifically be denied, so if you'd like to flip through it, go right ahead. Several sections of relevant information are summarized on the House Rules page anyway.

AD&D 2nd Edition Monstrous Manual - Monbk.zip - 713 KB. This book contains some information that the players should definitely not know, but also some information that they should (e.g., speeds of potential mounts, such as horses). Read at the risk of spoiling some of the fun for yourself, but at all costs, keep player knowledge and character knowledge separate.

Arms and Equipment Guide - Armsbk.zip - 100 KB. This book contains information on just about any type of weapon, armor, or equipment you could think of for a fantasy setting, right down to primitive firearms operated by magical gunpowder. If you want your character to have an item not listed in table 44, but that you think should logically be available in the time period, this is the place to look for it.

Tome of Magic - Tomebk.zip - 209 KB. This book contains new rules for mages and priests that we probably won't use; however, it also contains over 200 new spells that I'm willing to let you use if you're willing to look them up.

Player's Option: Combat & Tactics - Poctbk.zip - 3.25 MB. The large size of this book is due to many embedded images within the text, explaining the expanded combat system. It actually has a more comprehensive list of weapons and armor than the Arms and Equipment guide does, and I'm using a slightly modified version of both the critical hits system and the weapon proficiency system presented here. However, all you need to know of this is summarized on the House Rules page, so you need not read about it here unless you really want to.

Player's Option: Skills & Powers - Pospbk.zip - 248 KB. Another one that you're not likely to be interested in, this book gives an alternate character creation method that allows for much greater flexibility in the type of character you can build, at the cost of increased complexity and time required. It does, however, add several new nonweapon proficiencies to choose from which I will allow for anyone willing to look them up.

Player's Option: Spells & Magic - Posmbk.zip - 305 KB. Again, this book expands the existing system, this time focusing on magic and spell casters. I don't see its use as appropriate for a beginning group, but like most of the other books, it does have some worthwhile information in it: more new spells that I'm willing to let you use if you're willing to look them up.

DM Option: High Level Campaigns - Dohlcbk.zip - 240 KB. I don't really have a use for this book yet, as no one in the campaign is high level, and even if I did have a use for it, there's no reason a player would ever need it. I include it in this list for the sake of completeness only.

If the image on the left does not match the text on the right, then you need to download the font.

Book Antiqua

To download the font, simply click on either the picture of the font or the text of the font. Both files are self-extracting ACE archives. Extract the font file to a convenient directory, then install it using the font manager in control panel (Windows) or whatever procedure you use on your OS.

Other

Tome of Help - Toh.zip - 13.6 MB. This is a windows help file version of all the manuals available on this page. A long download on a slow connection, but well worth having all the manuals linked up with collapsing tables of contents, search and index features, linked cross-references, etc. Highly recommended!

Character Sheet Template - S&P character sheet 6.0.DOC - 54.5 KB. This is the character sheet template that I've been sending out to prospective new members to help with character generation. Having sent it out by email so many times, I thought it would be easier to just put it on the website. Best viewed with the print quality setting set to "best", for some reason beyond my ken.
